Copyright, Plagiarism, and Fair Use

Copyright is a law in place that gives the original creator of the work exclusive rights to use and profit.

Plagiarism is a form of cheating and has become increasingly more popular with the use of technology. Students are able to access full text documents and images via technology. Plagiarism is using text and or images from full text documents and not citing the source from which the text was originally taken.

"Fair use gives limited rights to those who want to use brief excerpts of copyright material without the need for permission." (Roblyer, 2015).

A resource that is beneficial to students is the APA publication manual. This resource outlines the rules and standards set forth by the American Psychological Association to properly cite sources.
